The Aboriginal Fisheries Research Unit is located within the University of British Columbia Fisheries Centre. The unit, led by Dr. David Close, employs a multi-disciplinary approach, including aquatic ecology and fish physiology directed toward the maintenance of sustainable aquatic resources that support aboriginal communities.

Our goal is to develop and maintain a unit that integrates traditional knowledge, cultural values, aquatic ecology, and understanding of fish biology and physiology in order to effectively implement tools for the benefit of Indigenous people’s resource management.
